The definition of Bench has come a long way…. It is more appropriate to be redefined as Betrayed by Employer Now Cursing H1Law’. Well, the Benchers are no more a bunch of hopefuls…they are a bunch of footballs to be kicked around by their employers under the cover of so called H1-Laws. The ‘rules’ of H1 are so ruthless that they leave little chance to the benchers to think and react. Actually, the benchers no longer react they just embrace the inevitable. And, no they haven’t dumped their culinary skills in a hurry. If any, they have only improved on them… so much so… most of these unsuspecting benchers have actually put on weight! These gentlemen & women (oh yes there is enough company for the benchers these days!) still put their best foot forward no-matter-what. They continue to ‘scan’ the market zooming-in on every ‘lead’ and masterfully marketing themselves for anything remotely close to be a possible job. They never sulk. Agreed they curse the law, (u know which one!) but not without reason. You only need to peep into their ‘recent-history’ to get a reason. Yeah, history… Heck! This land of plenty that seem to care for histories of all kind cares a damn for your work-history. Actually there really isn’t anything like work-history. If there is work and if you are a ‘worker’ you will get it! It’s as simple as that. You may say that is what Capital America is all about. I would say it is white-collar stupidity! I would rather not elaborate lest I run the risk of deviating from the topic of this piece. Meanwhile the protagonist of this piece calmly, I repeat calmly, broods on his future. His thoughts wander from lover/spouse/children to parents to siblings to friends back home to all and sundry nostalgia and not to forget that dreaded word - career! He may be down and he is not out of reckoning. He may be weary and he is not lazy. He may be beaten and he is not tame. He may be betrayed and he is not repenting leave alone avenging. His ‘occupation’ might have been redefined and acquired a new meaning still his passion for the ‘desired occupation’ has increased many fold. Needless to say he will emerge the winner and he cares a damn whether the so-called Corporate America lives to join his celebrations or not. And you thought I ‘ant know nothing of American History???
